We’re a hybrid – almost 40 years’ experience in credit management technology – but a start-up too, having spun out of FICO just 10 months ago.
As C&R Software, we’ve been busy working on our company culture and priorities. It’s an exciting, inspiring time as we focus on our commitment to Diversity, Equity and Inclusiveness (DEI), initiating activities that support marginalized groups.
One of the topics that surfaced is the fact that racism exists in the terminology used in the world of technology.
We want to use racially neutral technology terminology.
As part of C&R Software’s commitment to creating an inclusive culture for our colleagues and customers, we’ve introduced an Inclusive Terms policy. We’re committed to removing any offensive terminology or iconography from our products, associated documentation and collateral, and any other product materials and verbal communications.
As part of this initiative, we’re identifying offensive terminology, eliminating stigmas and using inclusive language. We’re eliminating the words “blacklist” and “whitelist” and instead using the words “blocklist” and “allowlist.” We’re also eliminating the words “master” and “slave” and replacing these with “main” and “secondary.”
This language is clearer, more neutral and inclusive, and the right thing to do.
